City will apply for fire center funds

Cincinnati City Council has voted unanimously to apply for a federal grant to help build a new regional fire training center.

The $346,500 grant, to come from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Economic Development Initiative funds, would be applied toward the $6.5 million Cincinnati Regional Fire Training Center, which would be open for use by all of the City's departments as well as emergency responders from surrounding communities.

The center would include an administration building, a fire burn building, a high bay facility, a fire pit and trench rescue, a tower facility and a technical rescue area.

No money has been budgeted for the project.
