Veterinarian seeks zoning help to relocate Downtown

427 Plum: Building at right

City Council's Economic Development Committee will consider today a notwithstanding ordinance that would allow a veterinarian to relocate from Walnut Hills to Downtown.

Dr. Robert Biederman Jr, DVM, who currently practices at the Cincinnati Central Animal Hospital at 650 E McMillan Street, wants to move his practice to 427 Plum Street (BIRD'S EYE) to better serve the growing Downtown population.

The ordinance is necessary because the building is located in Downtown Development District A (DD-A), which does not permit animal services.

Biederman believes that the ordinance should be approved because of the building's proximity to the DD-B zone, which begins south of Perry Street and does allow for such a use.

He has also hired LG Tokarsky and Associates to design the floor plans to address any concerns that Council or neighboring businesses might have with the conditional use.

An internet search shows that no animal hospitals or veterinary services are located within the Cincinnati basin.

Cool news for Downtown, but it is at the expense of another inner-city neighborhood.

What would have been ideal is if this guy was planning on opening a second location in addition to his Walnut Hills spot.

The Zoning issue has been resolved in Mr. Biedermans favor. He is currently my Vet. and we are very happy to have him move to walking distance from our house.

If there are any Vets out there who want to assume an existing practice I'll bet Dr. Bob would be willing to speak with them.

True, but it's no done deal. He still has to close on the building.

Doc. Bob has closed on his building and we should have a new Vet. on Plumb street by next summer.

Dr. Bobs building is under construction and he hopes to have the joint operational by March. Fingers crossed. That will be one less place to drive to.

Plum St. Veterinary clinic is scheduled to open on April 1st. Let's hope the contractor can pull it off. I know Dr. Bob will be ready.
