372-376 Baum Street photo update, 2/16/08

Little is known about this project at 372-376 Baum Street (BIRD'S EYE), but site demolition and grading continues.

The lots were purchased for just over $1 million in January 2007 by the JFP Group, and the rumor is that they will be building 10 row houses over two phases.

Of special note is the demolition of some of the remnant piers of the Mount Adams Incline, which line the western portion of the site.

For someone who loves the history of Cincinnati, and is sick of the American tradition of destroy-and-rebuild, this actually makes me sad (especially since the Mt. Adams incline was probably the most notable). Interesting, too, that an article about a different set of developers on the West Side are actually going to embrace the old incline, using it as an asset. I appreciate what JFP did with the Fourth Street Bank building downtown (restoring the facade to its original condition when developing it into condos), but they should take a lesson - history is worth more than money.

It was weird. I have heard not so much of a whimper. I wonder if they plan on leaving most of them and just razing the portions near the unstable retaining wall?
