Council moves on Boldface, green space expansion

The City of Cincinnati will buy two parcels of vacant land for the expansion of the Boldface Recreation Area in Sedamsville.

City Council approved the $500 purchase of approximately half of an acre of wooded property at 652 Fernland Avenue and 643 Halsey Avenue from CWR Investments, LLC at its Nov. 15 meeting.

Also at that meeting, a report from Cincinnati Parks Director Willie F. Carden Jr. revealed plans for a possible expansion of the City's Greenspace Program.

According to the report, the Park Board and Keep Cincinnati Beautiful have scheduled a Dec. 13 workshop at City Hall for community business districts to discuss options for an expanded flower pot program.

Options include adding business districts to the program and reducing the number of pots in the eight business districts currently maintained by Cincinnati Parks, cost and maintenance sharing agreements, and reducing the number of pots, plantings, and display changes from three seasons to one.

Members of Cincinnati Neighborhood Business Districts United will be invited to attend, and a report is due before Council by the end of the year.
