This type of development is a failed social experiment that frankly should be torn down. I've been over there and it is not the kind of place ANYONE should live in.

Where does Lois Boreman, director of N Fairmount Community Center even have a say about this. The project is in WESTWOOD. For that matter why does Lois Boreman think she represents the views of Fairmount residents who want this eyesore leveled as well.

Tearing down this eyesore would "improve' Westwood, throwing more money at it does nothing.

This city can ill-afford to provide a private developer with $3.2m and a 12-year tax abatement when it is facing a $40m deficit come December.

Is it really more important to provide another low-interest loan to the Fay Partnership? Is low-income, government-subsidized housing really more important to "green" than Cincinnati's historic/vintage homes, which are crumbling around us on a daily basis?

I've got a job. I pay taxes. I live in a 71-year old home that has a 38-year old HVAC system and is poorly insulated. My heating bills are outrageous. WHERE IS MY LOW-INTEREST LOAN?

Both sides have merit IMO. The "anti" redevelopment side might be appeased if those who've been terrorizing the area be required to serve in the development as "repayment" for their past deeds. This would act in a way which would lessen the desire to deconstruct while offering a way to lessen costs. Wean in the participants to those jobs which require skill so they understand the need to position themselves to opportunities with sober intent. If it's not their bag, go with errand running and clean-up.

To the "pro" redevelopment side, understand the other side's concern with the "unearned" attitude some display. Nip this in the bud by ousting the early offenders. This benefit of subsidized housing is not to be assumed a right, but rather a privilege. Those who are civic minded can and should be an asset to the overall area overcoming the preconceived notions of those who feel their success has always been fully earned, shunning luck and opportunity others can plainly see.
