Portion of Main Street to become Joe Nuxhall Way

Cincinnati City Council has unanimously approved a motion that would rename the (BIRD'S EYE) to Joe Nuxhall Way.

The motion now moves to the City's Department of Transportation and the Committee of Names to begin the renaming process.

A deadline of June 15 has been set for a report back to City Council.

When introducing the motion on March 26, Councilmember and Vice Mayor David Crowley asked that the process be expedited so that the name change could take place by June 10, the anniversary of Nuxhall's Cincinnati Reds debut and the day that he will be honored by the team.

"The Cincinnati Reds, Hamilton County, who own the Great American Ballpark and the City of Cincinnati are making this request as a way to honor one of Cincinnati's heroes," Crowley said.

A resolution supporting the name change was passed by the Hamilton County Commission in March.

The official mailing address of the Cincinnati Reds will become 100 Joe Nuxhall Way.
