Inside the Northside HOMEs, 6/24/08

Northside's HOME project homes, built by the Cincinnati Northside Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation at the , were recently opened for ENCORE Cincinnati's "Green Bags" Eco Lunch Series.

While they do look much the same as they did during my March visit, some landscaping work has been done by neighborhood volunteers.

And all of the staging furniture has been removed!

The homes, based on a design by architect S. Flavio Espinoza with refinements by local architect Alice Emmons, are the first "in the field" builds resulting from David Brown's HOME House Project, a national design initiative aimed at providing well-designed, environmentally-friendly affordable housing.

Both homes had been listed by Huff Realty, but are now being listed by Libby Hunter and Jami Stutzman of Sibcy Cline Realtors.

On her Keepin' it REAL Estate blog, Stutzman reports that there is a sale pending on one of the homes.

I hate to say it, but those are some majorly ugly houses. They don't fit in with the rest of the neighborhood.

I think that one thing that's great about that part of Northside is that the housing styles are a little bit more varied. And the fact that they are on a corner and on a fairly prominent street makes them stand out a bit.

I think that once the landscaping is finished and grown, the houses are lived in, and the owners personalize their properties, that it might soften the look just a little bit.
