Wrecking Cincinnati, 7/15/08

Fast-food restaurant
DOB: 1972
Died: July 2008
Cause of death: Formerly an Arby's restaurant, the building was blighted and vacant. It was likely demolished by owners ClifCor to avoid future upkeep. ClifCor still owns the property after a failed attempt at eminent domain by the Clifton Heights Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHCURC) and the City of Cincinnati to build the McMillan Park condominium and retail complex. CHCURC is currently working with Towne Properties on a partnership that will allow them to develop a mixed-use project on the surrounding land.

I believe Towne Properties has made a deal with Clifcor to purchase both Hardies and Arby's.

I am wondering why the demolition happened on July 4th. The buildings sat there for over a year and then they chose to do the work on a holiday and pay time and a half. Why do you think they did that?

JFD...that is entirely possible, but I wasn't able to confirm that with Matt Bourgeois. He told me that nothing had changed, but he may not have been in a position to share that information if that is indeed true.

drazilla, I think they work on week ends and holidays in busy parts of town, to minimize any possible hazards and inconvenience to others.

Wow, it's amazing that an area with such incredible redevelopment potential has looked like a war zone for so long.
