Wrecking Cincinnati, 7/29/08

Single-family
DOB: 1905
Died: July 2008
Cause of death: The house had repair orders issued in January for its chimney, roof, flashing, gutters and downspouts, soffit, lintels, siding, fence, and garage. The garage orders had been pending since late 2006. Although the house was never vacated or condemned, it was subject to numerous litter violations. I would not be surprised if this was torn down to provide more parking for the Madisonville Arts Center, though the property is owned by Oake Properties, which could best be described as a land speculator.

Oake Properties needs to stop buying land and start cleaning up the properties it does own.

They have evicted all the tenants in three buildings at East 12th and Broadway Streets, gutted the interiors, and now, after basically two years, they sit empty.

For year or more of demo work (it's actually still on-going), I called the city way too often to have them clean up their act. There was lead paint all over the street and sidewalk and vacant lot where they were filling dumpsters, mud all over the sidewalk and street where their workers would park, open access to the buildings at nights, and so many more.

I'm so tired of these absentee landlords screwing up my neighborhood while they "develop" the land for their own interests.

Okay, my rant is finished.

I couldn't agree more.

So Oake is the one responsible for that crap? I remember you guys talking about it at the PNC meeting in May, and now it's all I see whenever I'm in the area.
