OTR alley renamed for beloved musician

A beloved local musician shot and killed in a robbery attempt 13 years ago has had an Over-the-Rhine alley renamed in his honor.

Cincinnati City Council voted unanimously to rename Jail Alley, located , for Michael Bany, former bassist for such local bands as the Goshorn Brothers, Wheels, and the Bluebirds.

Bany, 42, died outside of Tommy's on Main, , following a show on December 29, 1995.

In 1996, the Michael W. Bany Scholarship Fund was established to help Cincinnati-area students pursue collegiate music studies.

The fund helps produce the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, one of the scholarship's main fundraisers.
