Cincinnati COOKS! photo update, 9/4/09

The building envelope for the new Cincinnati COOKS! facility in the West End appears to be sealed, with only a few ornamental elements remaining to be installed on the exterior.

Located at the , the 16,000-square-foot Anderson Center will include between 25 and 30 offices, a boardroom, a fully-functional kitchen, and warehouse space for the Freestore Foodbank's job training program.

The building was designed by bhdp architecture, and Messer Construction Company is the general contractor.

Yet another hideous new addition to a street that was intended to be grand and ceremonial. Maybe you should do one of your photo essays including this building, SCPA, the Rothchild law office, etc. etc.

This building looks ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE - in this location especially. Right smack between major significant architectural buildings, City Hall and Music Hall and the Betts Longworth Historic District, all of which have paid tons of $ to maintain their historic integrity.

It's a kick in the face to any aesthetic and/or historic efforts for the area.

"...with only a few ornamental elements remaining to be installed on the exterior." Why bother, they are not going to help. Save more nickels and dimes.

Another example of this city's inabaility to JUST SAY NO to projects that are architecturaly incompatable with historic structures.

We need real urban zoning and planning ordinaces with real teeth and serious architectural review when a building is introduced into a historic street scape.

This would not happen in most major cities.
